I have no recollection of where I have been between my last post of September 18th and now. OK, I have some recollection. Nothing seems to be in chronological order, but there are flashes of recognition.
Preschool: I had concerns that the boys weren't being given the support that they need. Little things tipped me off to this fact. Things like if the workers happened to even come to greet the boys, they would say something like, "Nate - take your shoes off! Josh - take your shoes off! See!!!! They don't listen!!!!!". Uhhhhhh .... they have autism ..... it is a communication disorder .... perhaps if you walk them thru it a few times they will begin to understand ...... I know that would mean getting up off your chair .... and I know that you are being paid by the government and therefore are genetically lazy ....... Also, when I would go get the boys when preschool was done, the whole class would be in the playground. The children in the class would be chasing and playing - the workers would be standing on one end talking to each other - and my boys would be looking at each other trying to figure out how to join the other kids. Not good. Anyhow, a few other things happened so Shauna (a.k.a. Given From God) said she would go and see. Sure enuf, this is what she found. She has asked for a meeting the Child Development Centre (a.k.a. The Government) to see if we can set guidelines for the workers, but haven't heard anything yet.
Changes to Government Funding for Intervention: Here in British Columbia the autism community is in an uproar about cuts to the funding. Oh - wait - actually the only 'uproar' that is going on is from the 70 families in BC that are getting $70,000/year per child. The rest of us in BC are getting only $20,000/year per child cause there isn't room in the government's $70,000 a year program. Anyways, the government program is being cut in January and every child in BC will be getting $22,000 per year. So we will be getting an additional $2,000 per year, per boy.
More later.
